Deck Repair Questions

Now that my boat is out of the water for the winter, one of the major projects is the delamination of the deck in 3 spots , one being around the mast step. I am just starting and will be using the West System and Don Casey's book on Sailboat Hull and Deck Repair. After the deck is structurally sound, it's the finishing method of the non skid that I have questions on--- I have heard of something like "treadmaster" but don't know anything about it or where to even look for it--so I'm looking for help

Try West Marine

Treadmaster is a rubber non-skid mat you can bond over the existing non-skid areas if you wish. Go to www.westmarine.com and search for "treadmaster" it will give you color choices and sizes available. Be advised there may be lower priced options out there. It is made by Simpson Lawrence, not sure if they have a web page, but probably do. Good Luck.

Another Alternative

I have heard good experiences with tread master, but some have balked at the price. Another company, Gibco Flex-Mold, sells hundreds of patterns for various nonskids. You will also need a colour match kit, and play with your colours, trying to match the fade in your boats gelcoat, not easy, but try different combinations, keeping in mind the colour often dries lighter than when mixed. They sell a repair kit that includes all the necessary gear. Check to see if they have your pattern. They are in Fort Worth, 817-236-5021. Good luck.Don
