removehtml]Time for a deck refit on our 69 cadet. Teak decks. A bit soft on the fordeck. Does anyone out there have any advice. VanError: Error: expected [/URL], but found [/removehtml] instead[/removehtml]
It is probably teak over cored fiberglass. There have been a few discussions con
lately and if you are planning to make your own repairs plan to get dirty and if you plan to hire it done prepare to spend some serious money. There are those who would disagree with me but it can be done from the inside. It is messy, mean, hard work. I know from experience.
If you work from the inside, you must decide if you can spend
much time on your back working over head. If you plan to work from the top determine how you will keep the work dry. Can you gain access to the entire underside of the fore deck? My boat was a single skin build with no liner. Some boats have a molded interior that is mated to the hull during construction. That provides a nice gelcoat interior but limits access to the hull.
before you can fix from the inside you have to find and stop the leaks from the outside!!!!!!. if your core is wet or rotten there is an obvious reason for it to be in that condition. the water got in from the OUTSIDE!?!!!
I'm looking at a Alden Choey Lee 32' Motor Sailer...its a really cool boat (though has alot of exterior woodwork that I hate the idea of maintaining)..even a wood mast and boom.I've gone over it with a fine toothed comb and the only (major) issue I've found is a 2' x 2' soft section of the fordeck about 1' forward of the deck house. The fordeck is teak but there is alot of access from below so dont think it'd be too hard to go at it from the lower end. Has anyone done this before ?..and if so can you give me some headfs up on any potential problems? Also,if anyone has any knowledge of the Alden-Choey Lee Winsome Class 32' Motor Sailer I'd like to hear from you..these things are a bit rare so input is helpful. Thanks>>>David
