I've been looking into getting a 12 volt heating/AC unit (normally for an RV) that goes over hatches and it occurred to me that the space under the air scoops on the deck (replacing them) might be the best place rather than over a hatch. As well there is already a bar there to protect it. My question is this... what is between the deck and the interior ceiling. It seems to be about 4" of dead space

The space under the sea hood is kinda like a big single dorade box for the ventilators. It separates rain or sea spray from the incoming air and drains that water off into the space where the sheets/halyards run under the sea hood. There is about 4" or so between the hood and the cabin top .. Picture from one of our forum guys (sorry I don't remember who) shows the riser for the interior air inlet with one hole on top and shows the blank space underneath the hood
