I have punched through one of the original deck plates and would like to replace both at this point. The replacements from West Marine and DR Marine appear to be different sizes than those on the boat. I measure the plate itself at 4 3/8 inches and with the frame at 5 5/8 inches. Any suggestions on where to find the right size?

The "critical" dimension is the outside diameter of the part of the flange that goes through the deck. That is the measurement you need. I would go with the ones sold by D&R (unless you can get them at a local store for a better price (or try Hamilton Marine in Maine, they are on-line and often have some of the best prices).

I replaced the original deckplates (inspection ports) on my 1979 DS II, I bought the Beckson brand ones sold by D&R Marine. First, they were a BIG improvement versus the original ones which had very fine threads, the new ones have a coarser thread making them easier to screw in and out. They seal a lot better too!
I did need to slightly enlarge the holes in hte deck (cockpit sole) to get the new ports in, but a few minutes with a rasp or sandpaper should do the job. Be sure to use the proper sealant (I used Silicone) and be sure to use enough (but not TOO much). Snug the ports down with screws just enough to start to squeeze the sealant out, then let the sealant cure at least overnight before fully tightening hte screws. I had to re-bed my ports a year or so ago to eliminate rain water from seeping in around the outside of the flanges for the ports.
