Deck painting

Will be painting my deck and cabin top this spring. Read about an owner who used Benjamin-Moore enamel house paint who did this and the results have been good for two years, now.
Anyone else tried this or know anything?

DON'T USE HOUSE PAINT ON YOUR BOAT!
Get marine paint and follow the directions.
Do the required preparation.
Follow all the directions.

I would also suggest using a marine paint. For the nonskid consider Kiwi Grip.

Do it once correctly and you will save time and money and have a better job.

I am pretty happy with my mixture of Awlgrip and Interdeck and house paint

You just have to understand the lifespan trade offs VS the ease of application

It not like exterior house paint is NOT out in the sun and rain and while the Awlgrip is holding up great its hardly going to last forever it just does much better on the topsides

deck, I would go for the real marine stuff, some house paints are slick as glass and I would not want that risk for me to walk on and off daily.

When I was shopping for my boat I looked at an Islander 30 that had its deck painted with house paint, pink house paint no less. The previous owner or his minion kicked over the paint pail, the paint ran down the cabinsides and down the hull. He never even wiped it up. The broker had the boat on a side tie with the offensive side away from the dock.

Even without the uncleaned paint spill there's no way I'd ever consider getting that boat even if it were free. If the P.O. thought house paint was OK, imagine what else he might have done.

So to answer the question, "House paint on the deck?" I'd respond, "Please, no."

I used "Blue Water" one part poly on my hull, Interlux Interthane Plus (pre Perfection that I had on the shelf) 2 part poly on the deck and the boot and cove stripes were done with automotive paint (bronze, I think laquer).
The Blue Water has failed miserably while the Interthane is in great shape, as is the automotive paint.
I chose Blue Water because it was something like $50/gallon. Huge mistake. I didn't go with Perfection because it's something like $80/quart and of course, requires friggin accessories like special brushing thinners, cha-ching.
Interlux sells an alkyd enamel for $35/quart, which is $7 more than a gallon of really good alkyd enamel house paint. Other than the word "marine" I'd doubt there is much, if any, difference.
Rustoluem has enamel marine paints for about $11/quart and is sold at our local Lowes.
I'm using Behr enamel inside my boat. I did the inside of my slider and forward hatch with one part poly, Brightside, and they mildew like crazy where the house paint doesn't at all.
When I redo my hull, I'm either going to use an enamel or automotive paint. Maybe the Behr, it's looking great so far.

When your work shop is a tarp that has to come up and down to keep the peace and the weather go between 0 and 105 degrees decisions have to made

Tommays has got you covered... Kiwigrip, or Interdeck for non-skid surfaces. Marine paints all the way... this is a no brainer... and good luck. The EPA has taken all the teeth out of house paints... wouldn't go there if you can avoid it.
