I'm getting ready to paint my deck and have read a number of articles online but the best teacher is always experience, hence this article and a couple of questions. I am thinking of using Interlux's nonskid deck paint ( white ) and painting my nonskid areas. Does anyone have any experience ( good or bad ) that they would care to share? Any other products that someone has found to be good I would appreciate hearing about as well. Also, if anyone has any advice about pitfalls to watch otu for when attempting suc a project I would appreciate hearing about.

You can't be too careful cleaning the deck of oil, wax, sunscreen. We washed, scrubbed and solvent cleaned the deck on our Morgan 41 . Paint didn't adhere, came off in large sheets. Not sure I remember, it was 10+ years ago, but I think that it was Interlux also.
White non-skid?
Not sure about white as a color but I do like the Interdeck paint. I have done my H37C decks twice, both with Interlux. The first time I used Brightside and mixed in the Interlux grit(polymeric). The premixed goes on so much easier and better. I also used it on my Highlander. The H37C was originally gray and I wanted to get away from that as you can see.
But I first painted the white gelcoat with Interlux Toplac. This goes on easily with roll and tip. Then lots of masking tape and on goes the non-skid.

I used the Kiwi Grip non skid paint sold on this site (I am not associated with the site nor it's owners or Kiwi Grip). It is easy and it holds up well. I did the complete non skid on my H40 this past summer. After it was done I put down a rubber backed mat (door mat) as a dirt collector on my side deck. Big mistake. The sun melted the rubber backing and made it stick to the deck after a week or two. I thought I would have to redo that section of deck, but in fact all we did was take a good stiff floor brush, some Soft Scrub and off it came leaving the paint in tack. It is easy to apply but it does have a bit of learning curve that isn't that hard. The instructions on their site and on the can are quite simple to follow. The most important thing is to remove the tape quickly well the paint is still wet and to not apply it in the hot sun or to a hot deck, so early morning after you wipe up the dew works great. The H34 next to me used the white after seeing how easy it went on my boat and he is happy as well. I used the Lt. Gray which is almost an exact match for the color that was in my gel coat. My 40 took 4 quarts. I didn't buy the gallon size because I knew I could not do it all at one time and I was a bit worried that it would not match from can to can but that seems to not be a problem, at least in the gray.
Sorry for the confusion in that anchor locker picture. That's what I get for oversimplifying. I had painted the anchor locker cover the year before so as to let it sit through a winter. I wanted to test its endurance and see if I still liked the color. The silver tape is, in fact, real duct tape. I use it to seal the cover over the winter. It doesn't leave a residue like the gray stuff. You can see the blue 3M tape that I actually used in the later pictures.
You might notice too that I split the deck down the middle. When I painted over the white gelcoat I put about a two-inch stripe down the middle. Then when I did the non-skid I only had to do one-half at a time.Working alone it makes it much easier. Also makes it possible to get on and off the boat.
I did a similar white strip before and after the shrouds because I know someday I will have to pull up the deck coring there.

Thanks for the tip on the roll and tip. I'm sure its more challenging than presented here. But certainly easier than spraying or not? I imagine you use far less paint than spraying.

I would second Kiwi Grip. I think it is a much better product than any paint product.
Masking the area is the obvious bottleneck in doing this job. All hardware should be removed and a good prep is alway in order. It looks great once it is done (if you follow instructions).
