Hi, I have a Beneteau First 32, 1983, and it have a bad deck paint Job. . Did someone know how much it should cost me to have my deck, re-paint? Is Deck painting an easy thing to do? Could I do it myself? Which product should I use? The no-skid surface seems good. Deck color is White. Thanks

Gelcoat is best

Paint it now, then paint it again later.... My suggestion is this. Depending on the condition on the boat and just how long you want to keep it for...I suggest that you go back to gelcoat. I would remove all the hardward, machine sand the deck, and then have the gelcoat resprayed by a pro. Finally I would rebed the hardward. Lots of work, and money but that's boating. I could not agree more.

Painting is a never ending chore. If you have the gelcoat resprayed it will look like new and will be easy to maintain. Once you start using paint you become a semi-professional painter and you also need to be careful about the products that you want to use to keep the boat look nice.

I disagree on the gel coating part

Re-gelcoating is expensive and time consuming Interlux ofers special already premixed deck non-skid paint. I have used it on my boat, it looks great and has been great for 4 years so far. The secret is in deck preparation - degrease, sand, degrease and paint al least two coats - and you are done. Also you have some money left for boat toys! Good luck and do it yourself, it is not difficult, not to mention satisfaction!
