deck organizer repair

through heavy cranking in a blow my first set of organizers ripped out of the deck. i think from an improperly directed reef line. this is the first time Ive reefed since aquiring this boat. they are not through bolted. whats the repair process. they dont appear to have been threaded into a tapped plate ,which as I understand with some boats, is glassed right into the deck. whats the repair process? its a 1997 hunter 376 that I've just acquired. I want to start the repair process as soon as we dock. If my partner believes I bought a boat that needs more maintanance then what we would normally do she will shoot me.

I had a stanchion SCREW pull out on my H26. I checked my other stanchion connectors and they were all threaded bolts seating into a threaded plate. So this one that pulled out was obviously a bad repair from a P.O.

I drilled mine out and filled with epoxy. While still wet I inserted a new bolt. Too soon to see how well it worked.

I can imagine you putting a nut on the bolt to give more purchase.

I think some pictures would help a lot.

There should be some backing plate(s) in a normal installation. Do you mean by "organizer" a turning block or other guide? or Do you mean a "sheet stopper"? or?

If deck hardware does not have an embedded plate to tie into, then it should be through bolted with large washers or backing plates below the deck. Assuming the holes have to go through a balsa core, here is the procedure I learned on this site and used for an organizer, clutch, winch, and cleat to run the main halyard and main outhaul back to the cockpit:

I ran the bolts through the cabin headliner, and covered the protruding bolts/nuts with a cherry plank, and grab rail. You may want to take another approach on your boat, depending on how the headliner is installed. But the drill/fill/drill approach to protecting the wood core is required to avoid water logging the core with future leaks.

Knowing Hunter there are machine bolt threaded screws that are bolted into aluminum plates within the fiberglass unless you see washers/nuts/cover plates inside. Once off you could repace the affected cheek turning rollers

Thanks everyone. There are plates glassed into the deck. I wasn't certain of this at first because the schaefer deck organizer blew apart and the stainless screws seamed fine. Not stripped like I would have thought pulling out of a threaded plate. Then I thought maybe the threads held up on the s.s.screw and stripped the plate. not so. It appears the screws going through the sheave into the plate are set with the bare minimum to screw into the plate. I bought 1/2" longer screws and replaced them and rebedded and am now fine. . I'm going from an old clunky northern 29 to a Hunter 376 so its not doubt I have alot of little things to learn. Each problem I solve is usually a me problem and not the boat. It was well cared for. But with water pressure, refridgeration, inverters, zantrex monitor panels, propane system ,windlass etc etc there are lots of new things. I am getting there but will have more questions.
