Found a fixed spreader light at "DEFENDER", wonder if anyone has installed
one or two on the bottom of a lower spreader, I have a Hunter 336, and might think a little light would be usefull on deck at times, how would wire be run , down inside the mast I suppose, drilling a hole should be easy, not too
deep, but running a #14 wire might be a bit of a problem fishing it thru the cabin roof, and is the spreader strong enough to withstand mounting a light on it with holes or clamps, would it interfere with mainsail, or jib, is one enough. or one on each side of the mainsail be better, I suppose if under sail, one might block out half the deck light, maybe I should stick to a 12v searchlight.

When I re did my standing rigging and had the mast down, I added spreader lights.
Several things you ave to keep it mind. If running the wire inside the spreader, is there an opening in the mast other than the bolt holes that attache the spreader. Is there a tube that all the wiring run in down the mast. If so, is there enough room to add more wire. If no tube and the running rigging runs through the mast, you must keep the new wire from interfering with the rigging. Think a lot before you start this project, something I think most boat manufacturers do not do when they build them.
Check out my refit. http://www.sailthehudson.com/Refitting Sea Fever.htm

Good luck.

We have a H-33.5, 1990 and the PO had put 2 spreader lights on the underside of the lower spreaders (one on port and one on starboard spreader). the wires (marine duplex) ran thru the spreaders into an existing hole in the mast and down thru a rectangular conduit in the mast. All connections were made inside the mast at the base of it, but wires already came up thru the deck under the mast to connect to wiers coming down the mast. wires that came up thru deck were for + Anchor Lght, + Steaming Light, + Spreader Light, and - Common. Check ansd see what you already have in there. Good luck with project. The spreader lights do come in handy now and then. I'm gald we have them.
