O'Day Experts: I probably wrote these questions on the wrong page so I'll try again. Found the ends of my wiring in the deck stroage for the battery box, how do you hook up the wiring, and do you just use a marine 12 volt battery?For deck hardware, if it appears secure, is there a need to remove it since I see no leaks inside the cabin? The walls are dry and clean, I bought the boat 3 years ago, just got inside to inspect. If I do remove harware, what the best material to seal it when I put the hardware back in place.I raised the center flooring above the keel, some small amount of water in the hold, other wise the hull around the keel appears intact no leaks or crack, any answers as to where the water came from?Most of the boats I see are just as clean and have a nice look, what wax is used, can you get it at Lowes, Wal-Mart, etc.?ThanksRobert

You could be in for a surprise or two. The other issue is to be sure to mount your new battery in a SECURED battery box. You can buy a cheap one at West Marine. The key is that it MUST be SECURED. Hearing your battery rolling around while your heeling over at 25-30 degrees is definately a BAD thing.For deck hardware, if it appears secure, is there a need to remove it since I see no leaks inside the cabin?If you're not sure that hardware has been removed, inspected, and rebedded in the last 2-3 years then it's time to do it.If I do remove harware, what the best material to seal it when I put the hardware back in place.3M 101. DO NOT USE 4200 OR 5200!!!!!any answers as to where the water came from?Good luck. Get out your Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe and start looking for clues. One trick I learned that seems to help is to put a oscillating lawn sprinkler on the deck to simulate rain and then go inside the cabin and start looking.what wax is used, can you get it at Lowes, Wal-Mart, etc.?3M Fiberglass cleaner/wax. You can also use any good quality car wax. Do not wax the deck! That nice slick deck will be a bitch when you're underway and heeling.Hope some of this helpsRuss

Russ: Thanks for the tips. I have been trying to clean out the compartment in the stern where the battery box is located. Water keeps draining it, some think it is bilge water seeping in. I plan on attaching a plastic shelf in the compartment and then replacing the batery with a new marine type and then placing it in a battery box to be stored in the compartment on the plastic shelf up from the drainage water.I tried to remove some of the deck hardware and when I removed the bolt the nut on the under side of the deck fell in some space never to be found, so I stopped removing the hard ware and just caulking around the hard ware base.S far I have power washed the deck and the hull, and it looks a lot better. The inside was pretty good, just cleaned it up with lysol and re-did the wood with linseed oil on the inside, and used tongue oil on the wood on the deck.Hopefully soon will move it to the lake, raise the mast and hoist the sails and hit the water.ThanksRobert
