I was up all night last night pondering this....if the bulk heads are bad...very very bad..would the deck flex alittle if you step on it? if the deck's core will need to be rebuilt, could someone work with me off the message and give me a step by step directions on how to do the job? I desperatly want to see the boat saved and if the guy starts to chainsaw it I will reconsider and maybe try to save it. I will have to build a rudder. I can not afford $2000 for a replacement when I have all the stuff to build one. thanks, Bill

I think is time to take it apart.

You got problems. The only way for you to know how serious the problem is to take the headliner down. I have a 34' that I will be selling soon and I don't have that soft feeeling when I walk on the deck. You can patch it by injecting epoxy into the void holes of the deck. Reinforce it with firbeglass. Buy a book how to do fiberglass. When I started on my 46' I bought several books. If the deck is wet you might have to tarp it and dry it. When I bought my 34 it had stress cracks on the deck. I epoxy the void holes and I used the boat now for 10 years and no problem. If your deck is wet, you need to get it dry. If you are flexing is because something has giving up in your structure frame. Dry-Dry Dry-Epoxy and epoxy again. I am also building a new rudder for my 46'. I just took the old one apart and duplicated the whole thing out of foam and fiberglass. Get into the internet and do some homework. By the way my 46' was a sunk and giving up for total lost boat. 800 hours later and about $30,000 on material it starting to look like the $450,000 boat it was. You have a $30,000 to $35,000 boat in your hands, use your time wisely. Cost can get out of hand when you are dealing with a low priced boat. I also looked at several hurricane boats for sale. Most of them you can't get your money back on them. Try a 46' hunter for $15,000 with a 60k repair bill is not a good deal. A 46' Swan for $20,000 that is worth 400k give you lots of room for repairs. I hope this helps.

check out the 42' Swan how mcuh can you buy it for

Ok. I would go check that 42' Swan sunk at the marina. I think it is a better candidate.

I never learned to use EPOXY..lol

thanks, the deck just gives a very little and I was hopping it was becouse the bulkheads were shot. so would I need to drill several small holes along the deck where it's weak, and allow it to dry, then start injecting EPOXY in to the holes? I was told that I may need to cut the skin from the deck over the weak area, and replace the balsa core...but I'm not sure that the O'Day 27 had balsa for core. I was realy just looking to get a boat to sail to the Bahamas and not to profit from by resaling it....and I realy hate to see it get chopped up. if the Epoxy injections is a safe way to do the repair and will last awhile, I would not think twice about jumping on this boat. (ok I have alot of time on my hands also :D ) I will need a few directions about how to use epoxy and need to know how to pick out the best product for the job. thanks, Bill

42' swan?

where would I find out about the 42' swan? I have no probs refloating a boat and working on it. my first sailboat, a 27 coronado was sunk when I got it, and it turned in to a great boat, and I also raised a few trawlers and thay sold before I ever got to take them more then a few feet from shore. ( they were old shrimp trawlers) thanks for the heads up. Bill

thanks

thanks for the help. it looks like I would be better off to keep looking so I am going to pass on the O'Day. I just don't have anywhere dry enough and safe enough to start the job and get it finished. I just liked the room and layout, but I would be better off with a boat that I could do the little things on and sail in a month or so. I really hated to see it go to the great boat heaven but it is well on the way to there. thanks all, Bill
