Deck Delamination - A dull 'thump' on the starboard deck has become a 6 feet long spongy area running from mid-ship to the forward hatch. Anyone have any experience with this problem? Specifically, where are the most likely sources for the moisture which likely caused the delamination? Any ideas will be appreciated. The boat is a 1991 Hunter Legend 35.5. Don Dicken

I do know ____

___ of a 37.5 that had the same problem, also on the starboard side. The delamination was exactly as you discribed. The moisture was entering through the deck fitting where the furling line goes through the deck, just aft of the anchor locker. Hope this helps Ray

Ray is probably right...

I'm so glad my '94 had single line furling instead of continuous, one less hole in the deck. Also, the anchor locker is not sealed to the deck around the upper/inside edge.

My surveyor discovered the problem from the anchor locker back about 6-feet on the starboard side. Caused by the two holes in the deck for the roller furling line. I had it repaired properly before purchasing; top layer peeled off, recored, and new glass. Looks like new.
