I've got a little more wet area on my cabin top than I thought. My approach is to tackle this a little at a time. IOW, repair a portion at a time rather than tackle the entire area. I know this isn't ideal but the deck is very solid in the wet area(there is no rot, just dampness). I will get to the entire area over the summer but I've got a lot of other things I'm doing and I'm hoping to get launched by mid May. Is there any downside to this approach?

If the core is solid and you are pretty sure there is no rot I would be inclined to leave it till you can do it right. Once you open it up and allow air into it you are giving the fungus what it needs to grow. Starve it of air and it is dormant. So opening small areas could make the situation worse than just leaving it for now. I wonder if you can get at it from the underside next winter to dry it out? Oh and i assume you have fixed the leaks. just keep an eye on it over the season.

Wayne, yes I think I've got the leaks stopped. One open question is whats's under the mast. My mast is up right now and the yard crane can't get to the boat to lower the mast because of other boats in front of me.

You are right that could be a leak area. There may be no real way to know for sure without taking the mast down I am afraid.
