Any suggestions for de-oxidizing the deck areas and cabin top that are not non-skid. I was thinking general marine rubbing compound. It is pretty bad, you get white all over yourself just being on deck.

My topsides were so bad I had to hit them first with 150/220 grit sandpaper to remove the huge 'pores' that had formed, followed by a good wet sanding w/600 grit. Then I used Meguiars oxidation remover with my Makita buffer, followed by #45 polish and finally a wax. Non-skid areas are treated with Woody Wax. Others will have different approaches and recommendations, and all seem to work equally as well.

Cheers,
Brad

Fwiw...

"Topsides" does not refer to the deck or cockpit..."topsides" (note the inclusion of "sides" in the term) is the hull above the waterline.

Just thought it worth mentioning.....

You might also post your question which is non-brand specific on the Ask All Sailors forum. Some forum folks that own other boat brands do monitor the Cherubini stuff; but many don't.

Hope that your cabin top gelcoat isn't as bad as mine when I bought my boat. The first impression was that it just needed some very fine sanding, compounding and waxing. But when I started the project, I was agast to discover that the oxidation of the original gelcoat was so severe that just a rub down with a dry terry-cloth towel exposed the underlying FRP layer in many places. Sanding all the loose stuff, then priming and painting was the only way to restore on a DIY basis.

I know the feeling. I prepped my decks for the non skid paint this week and when I washed the decks, the run off looked like milk. I plan to wax and buff the house sides first since it has the largest surface. After painting all the non skid, there is not much left to paint white.

I had to paint also. Always wondered why the topsides still take wax and buff out nicely but the house, decks, and cockpit turned chalky? If you ever do plan to paint the non-skid think about painting the white first. Really hard to paint the gelcoat after you put on a nice non-skid.

Island Girl Pink is good for removing the oxidation from the non-skid. It also works well on the smooth gelcoat too.

Don't use it on painted areas.
