mortyd, obviously

you have me confused with someone else maybe? I have lived overseas for a few years, Germany, years ago, but don't recall any place "ruined by big govt". Did I say that? I'm not up on govts and their workings, so I really couldn't say. But I'd be willing to bet there are a few that have gone away, by juristicting themselves into oblivion. Besides , if I were to "open a topic" on government. I'd do it in the proper forum. I also didn't open this topic. I just posted to it, and it took a turn from there. I just feel that if a large company (like Sears, Catalina)is going to sell us a product. Please, please make parts available to maintain these products you are selling us. Don't make, say, a oil filter with differant threads that can't be replaced. Are not "caps" parts? Pick a part, I did, and it went down hill from there. Calm down and splash you face with cool water and go sailing. It's a wonderful wknd. Keep it up, Ctskip

It is disappointing when parts are no

longer available, but I fail to understand how anyone can blame the boat manufacturer because one of their suppliers went out of business. As we all (should) know, boats are "assembled" of different parts from different manufacturers, like subcontractors. Catalina is one of the best in the business for continuity, but they can't be held responsible for WC stopping production. In fact, WC had very high marks for quality, which is undoubtedly why Catalina used them to begin with. The first few C34s had winches that are no longer made, before CY switched to Lewmars. One of the earlier boats here has those, but I don't hear him complaining (and he is a consisent winner in races - i.e., uses his boat a LOT). Bite the bullet and get a few new deck fills, or try the O ring suggestion. Have you tried Craigslist, e-bay, etc.?
