I am planning on buffing out the nonskid areas of my deck to bring back the gloss of the original fiberglass finish. I would like to seal it after buffing but don"t want to put anything on it that would make it slippery...does anyone know of a product that will seal after buffing.

Don't buff the non-skid.

Jerry: I don't think that buffing the non-skid is a good idea. You are going to remove more of the non-skid that probably isn't very non-skid to begin with. Look at the Island Girl products. You can use the IG Pink and the synthetic wool to scrub most of the oxidation out of the pores. Then you can seal it with their non-skid sealer.

oops !!!

What I meant to say was that I was planning on buffing the smooth deck areas around the nonskid.

Island Girl Non Skid

It's covered in another subject line here, but with mine and several other's experience on my dock - it would be a huge mistake to use Island Girl's non skid sealer. Take my advice, put it on a small area first - give it about three months. It will turn black. Don't know if it's mildew, mold or just that the dirt sticks to it, but it will only come off with Soft Scrub - and with a lot of scrubbing. The less sun, the worse it gets. My boat's bow points to the west while in the slip. The port side that gets the most sun wasn't too bad, but the starboard side that got shaded by the boom, etc - was very, very nasty after I was unable to go to the boat for about 3 weeks.

My limited experience

2 years ago I polished both the hull and deck/cabin top. I used the Meguires system. I used the rubbing compound, then the fiberglass nourisher (sp?), and then the sealer/wax. I liked the compound and nourisher products, and the wax looks good, but 2 weeks after I had finished, I came back to my boat to find rain streaks that I could not easily remove. Next time around I am going to try an acrylic sealer that I bought at the annapolis boat show(I forget the exact name), and if I am not happy with that, I will try my car polish, a product called Zaino that I have had good results with. I know a lot of folks here use the island girl products, and that might be the trick for you.

Aurora Marine has a nonskid paste wax called 'Sure

Step.' Very good stuff. See attached link.
