I have made a decision.

I am not going to totally cut the cord to the cyber world (or anything else). Right now, when I’m here ashore dealing with all the things that normal life throws at you, the idea of being way out there as unreachable and out of touch as Joshua Slocum is very appealing. Like most things, I’m sure it will be a lot less appealing in the reality than in the dream.
I will need parts and supplies and want to research them. I’ll want to arrange for crew and friends to meet me. I’ll inevitably hear news of world events that I want to know more about. Good weather reports will take a lot of the worry and uncertainty out of long legs. Even if I should get something like Satellite Internet, there will be more than enough time to just walk ashore or row off in the dinghy and be completely centered in my current space. There’s more to lose than to gain by trying to sail back in time as well as to the eastward, friends, cyber and otherwise, for one thing.
I haven’t decided yet on WiFi vs. cell connection. That will depend somewhat on finances and technical factors. Either way though, you can count on seeing posts here about my travels and repairing my boat in far places for a long time to come.
