I have an 1989 Hunter 28 equipped with a Yanmar 2GMF20 18HP. As I was backing out of my slip, I had full power. 4 seconds after I shifted into forward the motor lost power gradually within 3 seconds, eventually stalling.The motor will not start. It has healthy battery, starter and gas.Any suggestions?Drifting,Matt Wolfs/v Wu Wei

Filters, filters

Check your fuel filters it sounds like a classic clogging of the filtering sysyem, and is ure hope it's not gas in the tank.

Does the eengine turn over?

If not, maybe you got a runaway line or sheet in the prop, or if it does turn over, is the exhaust elbow clear?

Start with the filters. Then make sure you donot have an air leak.Good Luck

Mr. Kudera may have spotted the problem.Exhaust elbows clog up within 5 years.They must be replaced, not cleaned. $140.Happens so much that your store has 'em in stockHard to access but will breathe life back.First do the filters, which are easier.

I'd look for lack of fuel or air leak too!

Matt:I would start looking at the fuel filters and the pick-up tube inside the tank. If this is NOT the problem then I would be looking for air leaks.I don't think the elbow is necessarily your problem but it is worth checking if you are going through the systems.
