Our new Hunter 356 just arrived at the dealer, and carries hull #HUN35153A202. Anybody out there know how to interpret this number? I'm particularly curious to know how many 356s came before this one? Thanks for any insight. Pete S/V Sh'boom

Gone from archives?

Over the years this has been discussed many times. Now I find almost nothing in the "Forum Archives". Pretty certain that yours is a "HUN35", number 153, built in year '02'. But do not know how to decipher 'A2'. Worth a call to Hunter unless someone on HOW knows. Quite a large leap from my HUN37079M79H: Hunter 37, #079, built in September of 1979. Trade ya' :).

Wild guess: A2 = August

A1 would be April. On second though, Nooo...that won't work. April and August of '02 are still yet to come.

And the answer is ...

A real nice fellow from Hunter, named Eddie, took the trouble to track me down by phone, to give me the answer to my question about hull ID numbers. Here's the scoop: My hull number is HUN35153A202. "HUN", of course, is the manufacturer's ID (Hunter Marine) "35" indicates a 35-footer. "153" is the hull serial number (in the case of the Hunter 356 model, the numbering started at 100, so my hull is the 53rd of this model). "A2" indicates the month and year of manufacture (in this case A=January and 2=the year 2002). Finally, "02" indicates the model year (in this case, it's a 2002 model). This explains why some 356s have date codes like ...I102, which indicates that the boat was manufactured in September 2001, but is considered a 2002 model. Many thanks to Eddie at Hunter for this thorough explanation, and I hope this helps anybody else that might be wondering about the meaning of their hull number. Pete s/v Sh'boom
