Hi
I have a new to me 1977 Catalina 27 short rig. I have been busy doing the necessary upgrades before launch and have a question about DC shore power.

The shore power has been completed except the addition of interior plugs. Where would you suggest I place the plugs. I was thinking of adding two plugs in series. The electrical batteries and DC panel are located under the quarter birth.

I was thinking of using plastic boxes, as they will not rust, but do I include a GFI as the first plug?

Thanks

Assuming you mean AC (shore power), first plug in the series should be a GFCI located where you think you need them. Install a main AC breaker segregated from the DC power but it is usally convenient to co-locate on or close to the same panel.

Thanks I was AC and DC confused. Where do you find the outlets are most useful. Kitchen area, Head, or where have you placed them in your boat?

Everybody's needs are different -
Have one in the head for shaving, AC fan, blow-dryer(!!!), etc.
one on each side of salon,
one in kitchen,
two in each berth
one at nav station.

We use them all frequently but if you don't spend much time at the dock, this would be overkill for you.
