My 1969 daysailer centerboard hangs down about a foot to 18" when the crank is up. Is that normal? I can push the board up at that point if it is run aground. It comes down okay and I felt that if the board were held up to the bottom of the boat that I would not be able to insert the crank in the full up position. Also that it would not travel as far down. It was set this way when I got the boat. I made a board for the trailer to keep the board from catching rear trailer cross memener when launchingit. What's the scoop?? Should I haul boat and reset or is this okay?

This site should help you diagnose and fix your problem. It sounds like one of two things. If the hole is stripped, the lever will be somewhat loose, it still works because the triangular hole is catching a bit still. The second possibility is that it was replaced 120 degrees off its home position, so that when the lever is up, the cb is still partially down, (typically at about a 30 degree angle, which seems to be what you are describing. You should be able to tell which problem you have by determining if there is play in your lever or not. If not the problem is the second.http://www.bobhunkins.com/surprise/archive/000206.html
