I launche at the mouth of the Pascagoula river today. The plan was to sail to one of the islands after the fog lifted. Well the fog lasted offshore all day. So after lounging around the boat launch dock for awile I decided to sail up the Pascagoula river, where there was no fog and 80 degrees. But first I took a boat ride into the inner harbor where I met Dick Dixon and his buddies. After talking with them I headed north. Here is a photo of the boat at the dock.

Glad we met, Allen.

Your choice of sailing the Pascagoula River today was a good one given the fog out over the gulf. After you headed up the river, the fog moved in thicker than before. Frank Balcer, owner of Sandi's Wings, called me tonight and mentioned meeting you on the water today. I was surprised when learning how far you sailed up the river. Wasn't it a nice sail? While there are some shallow areas to be concerned about, for the most part the river is deep and wide enough to tack when necessary. Don't let Frank know I said this....he's a great guy! Although he has a slip in the harbor (real name is Lake Yazoo), Frank perfers to keep his boat in the marina next to the bridge in Moss Point. If you're in the area again and would like to spend the night at the dock in the harbor, let me know and we'll arrange it with the harbor master. That way you can take your time and spend a couple of days sailing the area. And knowing Sam, who owns the marina where Frank keeps his boat in Moss Point, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you docked there one night. By the way, the Pascagoula River delta is one of the last remaining estuaries of its kind in the US. Conservationists could better explain why it receives the recognition it does. Anyway, it was nice meeting you. If there is anything we can do to make your Pascagoula sailing experience better, please let us know. Can you see me now?

The admiral and I tried the same from Keesler in the back bay. We made it east under the I-110 bridge and the world changed into a fog bank. Not only that, the wind went to very light. So the Iron Jenny did what it was made for - we turned west and motored around the bay for a couple of hours - it was great.

I can't SEA clearly now

Hi Randy,Mary Lou and all, we tried since 9 a.m to go past the Highway 90 bridge and all we got were waves of fog fog fog. Got chilly and then it got hot. Got some good wind on the way back to Keesler, she healed to one side sweetly but we ended up taking the little guy to the playground for awhile. Sorry we missed seeing you! But that weather today was just so tempting...it hit 80?? B/Seadance

Thanks.........

Allen, thanks for the pics of "sandi's Wings". Hope you had a good sail up the river yesterday? Glad to hear you met some of the sailors from the "inner harbor", they are really a bunch of great guys! You could not ask for a better sailor to meet down there than Cap'n Dick Dixon. Helluva sailor and a good friend! Anytime your driving into town feel free to stop by "Jollys" marina at the foot of the 613 bridge. If the weather is too bad to go out front there is a public launch about a mile South of our marina. It is a very good ramp with plenty of water. As far as a slip, if ya ever need one overnight I sure Sam could accomadate you. Allen, have a great Sunday, i'm outta here in a bit to do a little more sailing today in the river. Thanks again Frank P.S. Will try to post pics of your boat this evening............

Allen......

If you're interested, next May we are planning a 10 day trip from Pascagoula to ports east. If as before, our first stop will be Pirate's Cove in Josephine, Alabama, followed by a whole week of sailing between there and Pensacola, Florida. We can show you the wonderful anchorages and sights if you want to go. You could either launch in Pascagoula and make the sixty mile trip across the Mississippi Sound and Mobile Bay with us or choose one of the launch ramps in the Gulf Shores area. Either way you can join us as we gunkhole in this wonderful area. The link to Pirate's Cove is attached for your viewing pleasure. Good sailing.... Dick
