Hi everyone,

Thanks for your patience today while the site gets a bit of shakedown cruise!

Here are today's top questions:

Why can't I login?

To have secure login, everyone must have a unique identifier. On the old site we used email addresses. But this system requires a unique user name.

Out of 39,000 registrations, about 10,000 were not unique. Amazing, huh? So, to make those 10,000 names unique we wrote a little program to add some numbers to it. Ugly, but effective.

So, if you can't login do this:

1. Go through the lost password routine. this should also send your username so you can see if it has changed.

2. If you email address is no longer valid that won't work, so drop us a line at cs@mail.sailboatowners.com. Give us your full name and we'll find your login.

3. if you don't like your computer-generated user name, click Edit Profile then scroll to the very bottom of the left column. Click Request Username and tell us what you'd like. If it's available it's yours.

Here's another idea:

For those who can't log in using old info, it happened to me. I suspected my user name had to be modified and I was correct. After an unsuccessful log-in try, I backed out and found a previous thread of mine and yes, my user name showed up as the modified one. Back to the log in using it and I'm good.
Then click request new user name if you wish.

The posts are sorted backwards -- newest first!

That was OK on the old board but not so good here. For some reason the default setting was newest first. We have changed everyone's settings tonight so (a) the thread will display old-t0-new, (b) the original post will be at the top of each page, (c) private messaging is turned on.

Aren't some forum photos missing?

Yes, we only brought over the newest of them. We are still working on the old photos and expect them to be up online Monday.

What the hell is Site-izen

A Site-izen rating is two numbers: On top, a score that assigns points for positive reputation, threads started, files uploaded, reputation points given, and other general contributions to the community. People with high scores have contributed alot.

The lower number is an activity percentile from the past 7 days. It shows who's been active in the forums recently.

My name is ______, and I use Internet Explorer

It sounds like some builds of IE, on some systems, don't show the javascript menus properly. we're working on an adjustment but it may take a week to figure out what will work and implement it. We appreciate your patience but feel free to remind me about it. :)

We also have lost posts in the Yamaha, Balboa, Chrysler, and some other SBO forums. We have it all, but not in the right place yet. Some of the KnowledgeBase posts need some editing; about a dozen. We're tracking down a few bad links. Please feel free to post suggestions in Site Talk or send an email to cs@mail.sailboatowners.com

As always, thanks for your support and encouragement!

Why is it that the Site-izen numbers are only displayed for certain people?

Not to get to 'Orwellian' but not everyone gets a site-izen rating next to their avatars. What is up with that? Some are more equal than others? Sounds a bit like the financial bailout the gummint' is workin' on (oops! I did it again).
Phil,
The new site is really fabulous and I only want it to only get better. My chief beef is with the Chandelry as you have already fixed bug #1 I outlined in my post to 'Site Talk' here: http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=101716
I know that you must be as busy as a one legged sailor at an ass-kicking contest so I have a lot of patience and sympathy for you. Bugs #2 & #3 should be looked at soon for all our sakes.
Keep up the good work.
All the best (I miss Robert Gainer).

what i miss

what i enjoyed about the old format was the abililty to skim through the recent posts, either new messages or responses, click on one that looked interesting and get into the entire thread. that doesn't seem possible in the new format, since everything is keyed to the initial post (usually a question) and the good stuff in the answers is harder to come by. i'm much less interested in a particular topic or thread than i am in seeing the variety of information and viewpoints presented in the responses. that's what made the old format so engaging and the new one rather offputting and frustrating. disappointing to me.

Caleb: the site-izen numbers update overnight. the ones you see are from people who were beta testing the site before today.

pbargen: Are you talking about displaying an excerpt from the posts on the New Posts screen? I think we can do that.

Dinky: Yes, but it may be a while.

Click on "New Posts" and it will display very similarly to the old format.

You can do this from two locations either from "Forums"/"New Posts" or directly from the "New Posts" link in the gray colored menu bar right next to "Search".. "New Posts" is similar to the old "24 Hour Forum Activity"...

Drop Down Menu...

Unless I'm in the home page, the drop down menu's are obscured by the bar across the top of the page telling me where I am [example:SailboatOwners.com > Shared Forums > Ask All Sailors > Day 1: Frequently Asked Questions and Update ].

I would like it better if I could go from forum to forum without having to go back to the home page in order to be able to see the options in the drop down for Forums. Don't know if it would help anyone else but it would sure help my hunt-and-peck style.

Other than that and the fact that thumbnails are not showing up, I like the new format.

Thanks for all you do for the community,

Mike2012

So... New Posts Is Only For The Last 24 Hours? And...

There is no option for multiple periods, correct, or did I miss it?

Also, guys, any reason I am unable to use the font/color et al for postings? As I recall in the beta, I could not then either. I was using Mozilla then and Chrome now, but same result.

It ..

Fonts & color & bold & italics & underline seem to work fine on the latest version of Mozilla.

We're you logged in??

How do you like the new Google browser?

LOVE Chrome, Maine...

It is lightning fast! The tabbing takes some getting used to, but the quickness is SO nice! I also began using their calendar which is a nice feature. Rick D.

Fonts still don't work for me (I am logged in). No big deal, I'll let things sort out. Still playing with it. (Signature didn't work either).

Re: No Gear Here Classifieds Yet, Right?

Classified Ads | Gear Ads

This will get you to Gear Here ads.

And... are you using Advanced posting or QR which is Quick Response? Only through Advanced posting can you do the fancy fonts.

I Can See Clearly Now...

It's there now, but I'm sure it wasn't before when I looked. Then again, I can't remember what day it is either...

Not As Clear As I Thought...

Hmm: I can get there from Phil's link, but when I scroll over the Classifieds tab myself, there is no pull down with the two choices, just goes to boat classifieds if I click on it. No big and Phil: you have more important things to do right now. And, Brian: the QR doesn't let me use font or color choices either

I just figured out that I can show a variety of post from different period. I chose the last ten days to see how that works out.

Also, I'm able to change font, color et al on Mozilla, at least in the QR
