To all Beneteau 361 (or similar) owners: We are on the verge of taking our 361 on a series of cruises about the Great Lakes. The boat and the crew are ready for the trips with th exception of how to handle the tender. We are going to drag it on the first sortie but that method does not sound very good for the long term. We want to hand the boat, a Walker Bay RID 8, from davits. Before we start drilling holes and making other significant modifications, I would like to know if other owners have recommendations for a davit manufacturer. If you have had good experiences with some particular davit, I would like to hear about it. Also, if you have had a bad experience with a brand of davits, I would like to know about that as well. DAVIT/ARCH
I have a radar arch/davit on my Bene OC400 that I sling my 10' Avon/8 hp Nissan under. It was built and installed in San Diego, though, but you might find someone to build something similar if that's the way you want to go. I like too because I use it to support the aft end of a bimini I almost never take down.

KATO DAVITS RULE...
Bob : We went over the same ground & weighed out "ALL" the possibilities...at the end of it all we decided to go with KATO davits. They are NOT the cheapest option, but they are the best available...end of story. Have a look at their website http://www.katomarine.com/ & if you look at this page http://www.katomarine.com/saildavits-boats.htm you'll find pictures of the davits mounted on the B361. They may have a radar arch for your boat. I have a 393 and initially installed Ocean System Davits. They were well made and of the highest quality, but the Beneteau does not lend itself the to the installation of davits. The transome wall is to flexible. I removed and sold the davit and installed an arch from Beneteau. I now have a place for the installation of the radar, three solar panels, an AIS antenna and a TV antenna. It only costs a phone call to check. Jim
