We want to add davits to our 456 but are reluctant because we are afraid they will intrude on the swim platform. Can anyone suggest davits that will not intrude on the swim deck?

I have a Wells davit. It is really nice but pricy. It is welded onto the arch and does not interfere with the swim platfrom. It is very high so the dingy hangs high and I can see under the dingy.

I am not sure if Hunter Marlowe still offers them, but we have the Hunter integral davits on our 2008 41DS and couldn't be happier. I am 6'4". I walk under the davit crossmember without getting close. The crossmember is set up perfectly to support solar panels (item 3 on the boat wish list) and let us extend the bimini far enough back to have full isinglass enclosure outside the pulpit seats. Our davit is rated at 300lbs. Walker Bay 10' RIB and Yamaha 15hp come in at 230ish and are no trouble. So if they still offer them, we endorse them!

We bought our davits from Ocean Marine Systems (http://www.oceanmarinesystems.com/tocnew.html) and are very pleased with them.

They go to the Hunter factory to develop a davit system specifically for each new Hunter model. The support is great. They supplied the bridle to fit inside our dinghy so it lifts up right to the top and allows the helm seat to drop down to the swim platform.

One tackle is 6:1 so it is easy to lift the dinghy when we leave the motor on it.

Installation was quick and easy, it was made just for our boat.

They suggest adding two straps around the outside of the dinghy so that it can not move at all, those are the two black straps you can see in the picture. The lifting tackles and bridle are all inside the dinghy. With these additional straps the dinghy can not move a fraction of an inch so you can not wear a hole in the fabric by rubbing against something and it can not shock load the davits when heeled over and the boat drops off a wave.

all well thought out, Bob

(I have no connection to this company except being a happy customer)

How do you like your Walker Bay Dinghy?
LOL, I wish I knew! That is the combo I believe I want. A friend let me borrow his to see if it would fit. It did perfectly. Including taking the Yammie off and rolling the Walker Bay up onto it's side with the bottom facing out and the starboard tube resting on the swim platform! He is selling his Mainship. I tried to talk him into selling the tender to me, but the Walker Bay and the Yammie are the only 2 things he is keeping. He loves the combo that much. The local inflatable dealer quoted $6800 new for the pair, so as of right now I am still trying to pry the rig out of my friend! I currently have a Caribe 8 and a Honda 5hp. Very serviceable, but I need a bit bigger / able to plane / and flat sole for the dog.
