They're not bad - I have used occasionally on charter boats. If enough breeze, they do move some air into the cabin.

We have one, it came with the boat when we bought it and we use it when it's really hot and there's a breeze. It works quite well, I don't know why we don't use it more often.

These work very well.. Takes a bit of experimenting to get it set correctly..

I've had both the Davis and a Breeze Booster. We prefer the later. Easier to set up and seems to work better in my opinion. I bought ours direct from the manufacturer. A bit pricey but well made though. They comes in several sizes. Here is their website. http://www.breezebooster.com/

One thing to consider - will you use it mostly at anchor or in a slip/dock? If at anchor, the type that always points forward is fine, as the boat'll swing head into the wind. If at a dock, maybe you want one that can orient itself, or be reoriented - I am not sure if one or the other of these is better for that.
