Datamarine Depth Sounder S200DL

I am having a problem reading the depth numbers on the face of my S200DL. I've checked the settings (night vision, etc.) and all is as it should be. The only time I can read them is when I have a certain type of sunglasses on; then the numbers stand out from the greenish background. Does anyone have any solutions? Otherwise, I'm told I need to put in a new system w/transducer. Thank you.

Sounds like the polarization of the LCD panel has failed. Simple test... hold a pair polarized glasses between you and the display and rotate them. If the numbers fade in and out... go to the local photography supply store and buy some polarized film. Cut a circle big enough to fit over the display and rotate it until the display shows best.... then cut to fit and tape in place.

Your solution worked! I found 3Dlens in Taiwan that had polarized film for laptops, ipods, cellphones etc, and they said it was what I was looking for. (Edmunds here in Jersey said their film wouldn't work.) So, for a $12 order (two pieces with adhesive backs) and $16 express shipping, I received the film within four days. Went to the boat today and, voila!, it worked!! Can't thank you enough! :dance:Sailing Morning.

Hi, I wonder whether you can help me. I just bought an old 1980 J-30. when i test sailed it everything looked perfect. But now with the boat in the slip, teh Datamarine S200DL depth instrument does not seem to work. i turn it on, and it stays on for maybe 10-20 seconds then it shows MSD verticaly on the left side of the display, and the numbers disappear. Any idea what the problem may be na dhow to fix it ?
