Question for the group........My depth gage is about 18 years old. Lately Ive noticed ....sometimes in fear.....that it will seam to work fine giving the approximate correct depth...then it flat lines..literally...the reading is ---...three flat lines......Then a few min later it comes back on....... this has been nerve wrecking at best........especially in the showllows finding a good anchorage. Anyone have any idea why it would turn itself off or on??? If there was a loss of power I would think there would be no reading instead of the 3 flat lines --- Any help would be apprieciated. Thanks Rob

My unit is newer

But sometimes does that, I found that if I am following a power boat into a shallow area, (5.5 to 6ft.) I sometimes get the three limes for a few secomds, I think it may be the churning of silt from the bottom being washed by their prop.,giving a false reading. Just a Guess!

John.

I was thinking it was a bad reading on the bottom.or just under the hull,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Like fish,or sea grass,or silt..but it happens all the time..actually its off about the same amount of time its on.....I checked under the hull at the transducer and its clean no growth. Very finniky thanks Rob

sounds like the transducer is about to go

Its not getting any signal when it goes blank and on past units I had to replace the transducer to get things working right again. But if you are considering that, check the price of the newer units .. might be time to update.

18 years is way beyond expected life

Electronics - even with mil-spec componenets - don't usually last 18 years.
