I just called Hunter parts dept. and they said that the speaker covers for the cockpit speakers for my '93 30T are no longer available. You have to buy the whole speaker ($$$). My speakers are fine and don't need to be replaced. The speaker covers are rotted out pretty bad. Does anyone know of another solution??? Can other covers be adapted to this use, etc?

In the past I have been buying these covers from a company called Prospec Electronics of S.C. They are located on 3325 Highway 17 North, Mt. Pleasant, S.C 29464. Sorry I don't have their phone number. They used to be $5 a piece. Good luck, Jim

I live here and saw the response about the speaker grills. Prospec Electronics numbers are (843) 856-3859 & 849-9037. Now that I read the response, I am going to have to find out about these guys also. Good luck on your grills.

Inspection ports

I'm installing 2 cockpit speakers. By chance I saw a recent Practical Sailor review of speakers.....since I had already bought just skimmed it. In an insert was a short blurb on how fast and how much water comes in through a speaker. I rethought the deal and am following their advice and installing screw in inspection ports in the speaker holes. I'm putting 3/4 inch plywood inside the locker as backing and screwing the speaker to the plywood. Whenever I want to cover the speaker holes to keep out water I can. The speaker cover can be some stretched cloth or fiberglass screen then...anything fancier is a waste. The numbers on the quantity of water surging through a speaker were enough to spook me. I guess its overkill for lake sailing, but for anything rougher seem worth the effort! IJ
