--Updated 12/24 bottom of thread--

Woohoo! We're coming home. And we're bringing the boat with us. 4.5 years on the East Coast is long enough. No more winterizing No more un-winterizing No more worrying that the winterizing worked No more shoveling snow off the deck with a dust pan in 24 degrees No more 5 months of annual lost living No more bugs mosquitos gnats noseeums wasps No more sweltering humidity No more (less) ruined weekends due to assorted weather No more crowded bays. Oh the open Pacific how I've dreamt of sailing again. The spray the deep blue sea the dolphins the swells the steady wind, and the endless horizon. Back to Catalina Avalon Two Harbors Newport Oceanside, and our beloved Dana Point. We're coming home.

When we returned in 1999 to CA after eleven years in Florida, I stopped the car in Baker, California (Mohave Desert) to get out and kiss the ground!

Reminds me of a Cuban comedian who had a routine of a guy who left Miami to move up North. "Look how pretty and peaceful the snow looks, this is life" He shortly was saying "That stuff keeps coming down and all I seem to do is shoveling and then the darn snowplow guy keeps putting it back in the driveway. I think he watches me from the corner." Finally "Moved back to Miami, look at the ocean and feel the warmth, this is life" I guess the point of the story is No Place Like Home.

Congratulations. Sailing or shipping. Sound like a great opportunity for a long cruise. My son lives in Laguna Niguel, across the highway from Salt Creek. Love that harbor. Only drawback is having to stay on board when anchored.
Welcome back.

No more Annapolis service rates ... no more polluted water. You're gonna miss it!

Thank you. We're trucking the boat. Wish I had the time for the long cruise but will have to wait.

If you're kissing the ground in Baker, you REALLY miss California. :)

Made it to Redondo Beach. Boat is snug in her new slip in King Harbor (pic). Mast still out ran out of time before flight back to East.
Final house move mid Jan then we're Californians again.
Waiting list for Dana Point is likely done by Feb, then sail the boat down there and we're back to heaven.

Got to Redondo and it was 70 degrees and sunny with marine haze. Then the fog rolled in. Still warm and cozy. Fog horn started up and I knew I was on the coast again. Palm trees rustling, seagulls squawking, sea lions barking, boats cruising through the heavy mist. And happy people roaming, skating, biking.
I arrived at Washington Dulles last night. 42 degrees and downpour.
