Nice N Easy

How exactly do you

I have to wonder exactly how one goes from an executive stealing from a savings and loan, to federal prison, to managing the A&M sailing team. This guy must be one hell of a good BS er. And while I'm wondering, how do you fix a keel that has been grounded hard enough to be loose and leaking, for the paltry sum of 1800 bucks. You have to figure it cost 500 just to pull the boat and splash it. This will be an interesting story as it develops farther.

I would bet good money that you could break the

spars off Bietzpadlin before you could break off her keel. When a designer attaches a keel to a hull in the manner that this one was done it is only a matter of time before it falls off.

I had my doubts about this case from the first reports of it.

Was there any previous history of Cape Fear Yacht Works keels falling off? Not that I am aware of. So why did the keel detach from the hull? Some preexisting condition(s) the boat endured.
The initial article I read on this incident said that the donor of the boat ran it aground causing the keel damage, IIRC. Tony's recent link says it was Mr. Atchley, who has a dubious background perhaps, ran the boat aground, causing water coming into the cockpit. He then repaired the boat himself on the cheap and received a reprimand from the university for his bad judgment in getting the boat off a sand bar.
I am not sure whether the vultures are circling or the vulture gave some bad meat to a prey. We will have to wait and see. I am not sure that the press is getting closer to the story or if the story is being changed enough to protect the guilty.
JMHO.

Makes you wonder

how people like Hatchley get past the background check.

Breaking wind

people in thos positions

usually get there by knowing the right people, or knowing "things" about the right people.

A&M probably thought "he's just sailing whats the worst that can happen?"

I don't see this guys previous sailing experience anywhere?

too sad in any case.
