Cylinder soot,, blowing out the Yanmar/

I fired up my Yanmar SB-8 last weekend, and sailed for the first time in 2006. We noticed an evident amount of black soot coming out of the exhaust at high RPM underway motoring out. I was told that the engine needs to be blown out, that soot has accumulated in the cylinders and the engine needs a good run underway at high RPM and high temp to blow this soot out. Does this sound correct? I rarely run the engine at top speed, and really rarely ever use the engine at all, so it seems to make sense. Thoughts? Thankyou, Cappie

Been there.

We did not touch our H320 for 5 months last year as we had laid anchors for the hurricane season and did not want to disturb them. When we took it out we were getting black soot at high RPMs. We changed air, fuel and water separator filters and noticed an improvement but it was not until we topped of the fuel tank with fresh fuel and added and additive that the problem went away. I believe the fuel had gone bad. I don't know about that turbo wash and have not seen it in the manufacturer pages.

A Question about TurboWash??

I drive two Turbo diesel motor cars regularly. It occurred to me today that I may be able to use this product in the cars too? Just shoot it into the air intake and fire the car up on the highway? Make sense? Thanks again, Cappie
