Has anyone converted a Cat 30 to a cutter rig? What are the pros and cons?

strengthen the foredeck

I asked about this previously and got no respnce from this group but I have talked to a friend who heard of it being done. He says the extra stay opened the foredeck like a sardine can in a storm. I've been pondering ways to strengthen the area where the stay would attach, just forward of the hatch; glassing in a rib from hull across to hull, running a post down to the stem, etc. So far no movement towards doing any of it though.

Strength

Catalina provided me a drawing for installation of an inner forestay for the C-36. Rather than attempting to strengthen the foredeck, which would be difficult, expensive, and heavy, the method shown is to glass a piece of plywood into the hull to attach a chainplate for a removable stay in the v-berth, such that it is in-line with the inner forestay, and transfers the load to the hull. Hardware to do this, including special double-sided pad-eyes, and pelican hooks for making things detachable, are available from rigging hardware suppliers.

cutter rig

Yes - i have seen one which sails out of norwalk, connecticut. I too have been wondering about the value of such a conversion.
