I am replacing the cutless bearing and i am not sure if i need to how much play should there be in the shaft. Also I have a '81 are there any set screws in the strut if so where are they. Thanks
It's not real scientific. Pull on your prop and check for side play. There should be little to none. If you get excessive play in the bearing it results in higher vibration levels. I have an '87 with a Universal M25XP. It has no set screws on the strut. Talk to one of the mechanics in your boat yard for an opinion. Good luck!
