I have a 1988 Hunter Legend 35. I want to replace the Cutless Bearing. I have a 1" shaft, and the Bearing is probably at least 3-4 inches long. Does anyone out there know the part number I need, or how to determine the part number?. It has two little cone shape set screws holding it in place.

The dimension you need is the thickness

The bearing on my 37 cutter is 1 in by 1.25 in - it is in fact about 4 inches long. The size refers to 1 inch shaft - 1.25 inch bearing OD. Your boat yard should have these as they are common items. (It will be harder to get the old one out than it will be to find a replacement.)

And one more item....

...when you go to remove the old bearing be sure to remove the two set screws first. They are located on the side of the part of the strut that holds the bearing and take an allan wrench. If you don't see them then they are burried under the bottom paint.

Thanks.

I've got one of the Allan set screws out already, the other one I'll have to get out with and Easy-out. Thanks Dave

Debra B: How did you know?

Just read your post about the cutlass bearing... good call! Curious, how did you know the HL-35 bearing would be the same as on your cutter when they are different boats???

Psst John,,,

It's standard stuff. A one inch shaft means that's about all there is. Have you been sailing in this great weather? I think I'll walk the pups and head out to single hand. It's been a long time.
