Most boat yard have them...

have you already removed the prop? After you remove the two screws from the strut...you can usually use a screwdriver or a small punch and tap it out. Some people use a piece of pipe and if the shaft is out you can use a hacksaw. Good luck.

easy job left to yard

quick inexpensive job for the yard to do...most have a tool that will press out the old one and press in a new one for under $100 including the cutless bearing.... why waste your time there are many other things you have to do this time of year IMHO chet p

Will not work if the bearing is real tight, my expereance. Iworked on mine for 3 day's on and off. Some one had bought one and offered to rent it to me jumped on the offer and it took an hour to do the change. His offer might be in the archives.

pimerese...

I sent the pages to you. If you do not receive them let me know. I don't know why you couldn't get to me by linking to my username. I'll check it out. Gary, If the tool is made properly, fits your boat properly and you have enough room to use it there is no reason why a little patience and common sense can't get it to work. I will point out that you must clean the shaft down to bright metal both before and aft of the cutlass bearing. Clean the cutlass strut itself off so you can find and loosen any set screws holding the bearing in (mine had 2). Be sure to use plenty of lube on both the old bearing and the new one, dish soap works great for the rubber insides. As a last resort, a bit of heat on the strut might help get things moving. Just let it cool down some before you press the new one in so you don't melt the rubber insides.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on. 2 or 3 weeks ago I realized that I was no longer automatically logging on when I visited this site. I looked for my profile but couldn't find it. I tried a few different things but my avatar, my signature and my profile were MIA. I posted a note to Phil on one of the forums asking him to look into it. My post showed up on the list for about 5 minutes and then it disappeared. The next time I visited the site my I was automatically logged on again. I posted a response to one of the other posts and my avatar and signature were back! Now, after you reported problems getting my email address, I went looking for my profile but it did not come up. OK, I thought, I'll just re-enter it. When I tried to put up a new profile it responded that there already was one under that name. Then I tried to edit my profile but it can't come up with it, I just get a blank page. Phil, any suggestions?
