cutlass bearing--formosa 41

i have a leaky teaky and am changing engine out--i will also need to change cutlass bearing soon-----was told is BAD.........anyone done this????? .........

i have a formosa as well mine locked up this weekend i think ican back it off buit am looking for the same information...

if yours just locked up is prolly not frozen yet..if you are gonna work on it immediately and have a place for it , gently see if the nut turns--if it doesnt--spray with an anticorrosive ...if that doesnt work--be careful of the shaft log--will break with pressure in excess.....the shaft log in these is a bolt in bronze tube -- is subject to electroll-y-sis, wear, pitting from salt---many things over time----is a haul-out for replacement--and costly to replace....replace able with bronze bolt in or plastic.....gooood luck......be gentle woith your old girl---gooodluck....have fun with her....

thanks for your help... i am trying to replace cutless brg the housingis held on with 4 studs i removed studs how does this housing come off.. the shaft will turn but tight i put soap in the vent and it got loose but after soap ran out tight again .does this housing unscrew and witch way to remove clock wise or counter.. and does it attach to the tube...this is a bear....mike

cutless removal 41 formosa

my shaft will turn but very tight to the point it sqeals i put soap to lube it and works untill the soap run out then tight again... i think the rubber insert has come aprt on the back side of cutless .. if any one has made this repair any information would be great.. on the cutless housing that is held on by 4 studs.. i removed the studs but the housing does not move. does this housing unscrew or just slide off shaft???thanksss mike

are you changing the shaft log?? tube that runs thru the hull?? is bronze and bolted into the glass---are you in the water?? or out?? if out of the water, is spozed to be do able--spensive but do able---i havent done mine yet--i need to replace the shaft log and cutlass bearing in mine---whenye get done, please let me know how to do it!!!! i will have ot patch mine until i can afford the multimillion dollar haulout required ot replace both....lol....

yes it is in the water as of yesterday.. but going have to pull out to fix if i cant get this housing off..

wow if ye fixes the shaft log in the water please please let me know how to do it without sinking boat lol---i am ded serious.......cannot hang with the prices of haulouts in dago....8k to replace shaft log is ridiculous to me ....did you have log made or did you find one to replace old one with---please tell me where you bought/how ye made the parts so i can do mine....seriously...i need to line up my parts before i begin my work, as time is of the essence with this repair.....ty..

my log is ok just the cutlee is locking up after 20 minutes of running

my log is ok but the cutless is locking up after about 20 minutes starts sqeeking then gets louder trhen stops engine.... i think cutless is separating....you can revo prop and get plumber plug to insert in the stuffin housing 1 1/4 shaft to close off water while you remove shaft....

dang i was hoping you were doing all i had to do so i could learn from ye....i have options as to what kind of patch i can use--i just have to looksee to find out what kind of damage is in there....
