YIKES!!!
Gasp! Let me preface this list with the comment that, since I will celebrate my 20th anniversary with Casual Water this February 4th (I live aboard), I have actually had quite a bit of time for sailing, notwithstanding the following:Ground Tackle: added bow roller and custom built a "pawl", changed cleat and chocks, bought five anchors and assorted chain, line, swivels, shackles, etc. Sails: new sails, plus storm jib and interior forestay, cruising spinnaker. Added whisker pole and gear.Steering: replaced Kenyon steering cable, added autopilots (2), and Monitor windvane.Structure: beefed up a few areas, most importantly the hull aft of the keel joint, the root of the prop strut, and the whole interior and mounting system relating to the rudder tube assembly, bearing, and quadrant.Galley: replace Kenyon stove with Origo 3000 and gimballing microwave, and added Magma propane BBQ. Installed Supercool refrigeration unit. Changed faucets, added transparent doors to lockers and ice-box shelves. Installed manual trash compactor and watermaker.Head: replaced head, added holding tank, changed faucets, shower, added sun showers and pressure sprayers, above and below (great equipment). Entertainment center: installed AM/FM/ Cassette, speakers, and CD changer, TV and VCR. DVD player to come!Electronics: installed Loran, GPS (3), Ham/SSB, radar, new VHF, knot meter, portable electric piano, EPIRB (2). Interior and cabin: changed ports, replaced cushions and blinds, added a few pictures and carvings, various gear hamocks, rugs, converted pilot berth to shelf, made another shelf.Engine: routine maintenance and replaced water pump and elbow (several times each) exhaust hose, water lift mufler, painted engine.Plumbing: changed all gate valves to ball valves, and added a few.Pumps: added a high capacity bilge pump (3000 GPH, measured, and a manual bilge pump)Electrical system: installed smart regulator and spare, and smart charger and four golf car batteries and upgraded alternator, and installed 1700 watt inverter and several new outlets. Installed 324 watts of solar panels (8).Added masthead running lights and foredeck light.Exterior: either Awlgripped or re-gelcoated all exterior surfaces, did blister job, painted mast, and applied name decals. Built seahood (garage for main hatch), re-bedded all hatches, added radar reflector, dodger, several awnings and arch over helmsman's seat for solar panels. Made wave deflection washboards for side decks just aft of winches, and scuppers for the waves thus deflected (SINGLE BEST ADDITION TO BOAT!), and added various types of cushions for various conditions. Installed MOB gear plus LifeSling, made davit for outboard.Rigging: re-rigged (twice) and upgraded to larger, 316 wire and Norseman mechanical fittings, and changed the split backstay to twins (one insulated for the Ham/SSB antenna), which really opens up the cockpit.Toys: added various dighies and outboards, over the years, with the current complement being an Avon 315 with Evinrude 8HP outboard, a Tinker Tramp sailing dinghy/lifeboat, and a Stearns inflatable kayak.Well, I may have missed a few things, but that is about it. Many items have been done more than once, as I have upgraded things and bought newer versions. Most, but not all, of the work was done by me.I had the advantage of buying an almost new boat, to which the owners had added nothing.Everything works!
