Has anyone had a custom trailer made for an Oday 26? If you have, can you tell me who built it? I'm looking for an aluminum trailer.

Ed thanks

Ed, thanks for the reply. I'll contact them. I want an aluminum trailer with bunks; hopefully they can do that.

weight of 26

Because of the weight of the 26, galvanized steel might be better? Triad offered either bunks or pads. The Pads allow bottom work, which was a major consideration for me. I do my own bottom paint. There are trailer companies that specialize in Aluminum trailers. The problem will be correct measurements to make a trailer. Triad has the measurements because they made a trailer for a 26 for some other guy in the recent past and had a 26 nearby to get the measurements from. Getting the correct measurements for bunks will very important, whereas the pads on my trailer are adjustible. Getting the details on the 26 has been a challange since the company is gone and documentation random. A set of technical drawings would be a great find. If you get a set, I would like a copy (at a reasonable price). In getting information, the 26 is very similar to the 25. Beam is in total the same, and if you look at a 25 hull it is hard to see any difference, but there has to be, the 26 is about 10 inches longer. The East Coast Decks look completely different from the West Coast Decks. Ed K

Pads

Ed, So, with your pad setup, can you turn down the pads enough to make room to paint? Does it offer enough stability to do that?

Pads

Kim: The trailer has 8 pads, 4 on each size. For painting we made a pad substitute. A 2x12 about 2 foot long with 2x4's fastened upright on the ends. We dropped one pad at a time and inserted the substitute one at a time. The substitute allows for painting hull where the pad normally rested. Dropping a pad one at a time left three holding the hull steady. Keep in mind that the keel is flat on its bottom and resting on the flat keel support. That is where the weight of the boat rest. This technique is used when using jacks with pads. Go back and look at the picture that I posted. Ed K Greenville, SC, USA

George Clore - Custom Trailers - near Galvaston, Texas

I am traveling and do not have his email address handy. I have one of his trailers. I use it for an O'Day 26. I worked fine. Mine came with adjustible pads so that pads can be lowered for hull maintenance. If you need more info contact me after Dec. 31st. A search of the internet will show several companies named Custome Trailers. George is a sailboater and was last restoring in Antique sail boat. He will respond to emails. He is hard to reach initially on phone. One reason is that he is a tiny operation. He is a small operation so you will deal with him and not an office. Ed K Ed K

Rig pictures

Steve, I guess I fouled. The photos in my post is taken from Triad files. It's one of their trailers with someone else's Oday 26s.
