I live in the center of the country and it's difficult to find a reputable manufacturer of stainless stern rails with seats. I'm looking for a quality builder of such a rail for my sailboat. These have never been offered for my 1983 31 footer from the factory. So they must be custom made. I'm looking for references? Any one had these made for their boat? Thanks Keep it up, Ctskip

Thanks, I saw these

I don't have a lower rail for the mount. I know they offer a "$200 kit" to make a lower rail for those that don't have a lower rail. Thats close to $700. I think I can get some custom rails made for close to that, and it'll be "custom" too. Ever since I moved next to a Catalina that has these bulging rails. Now I want them. I have used them and they seem to be perfect for sailing. I like the way they bulge out over the stern too! I am willing to have custom rails made with the double row and these bulging seats ,so I can do some teak seats for that custom look. I gotta be differant. If I was like most in my club, I'd have a Catalina.

Sold here for a lot less

While CLR will gladly take your money, you can buy them here for $249.00. http://shop.hunterowners.com/detail-sternperch.htm?fno=400&group=181 If you want a custom rail, check out Tops In Quality. But you've also got some glass work to do to reinforce the attachment points.

E Z Railer option

Here is a less expensive option that worked well on my boat. It is a great product and the service was outstanding. http://www.encend.com/encoreEndeavorsProducts.htm

Thanks all for the ideas and leads.

I am kinda stuck on doing a rail seat just like I see on a Catalina/ Hunter. They are nice, being somewhat higher and having more visibility and having my foot reach perfectly to the wheel. Just one of those warm fuzzy feelings.I sail for the love of it. I now see, that I will have to have the rails made. I don't have the double rail that is needed for the seat. I have followed some leads that I have received here. Thanks. I'm waiting to hear from manufactures as to the cost involved. I want it to look like it was made for the boat and not some after thought. Just the same quality that the manufacturer (Allmand) had in mind when he built this boat. I just know what I want. I want it to match what I already have. I'm in no hurry and I'll plan this project till it comes to fruition. Thanks all. And keep the ideas and names coming. I'm looking for quality and not looking to saving the dollar. I'm not planning on selling, I'm plan on enjoying. It's what I sail for. Keep it up, Ctskip

Folding legs

I have a couple of Sternperch seats on the aft section of my boat-generally love them, but have an issue with the legs standing out when the seat is folded up. I have had to reinstall the legs on both sides after someone grabbed one or had a sheet wrap around the leg while in the folded position. Anyone found an acceptable folding leg alterntive?

Here what I did on the H37 cutter

which has a "small" cockpit. I took the stern rail off and gave it to the fabrication guy, he charged about $1200. The top rail was cut out and the seats "inserted". There is a strut down the back of each,( for strength and to hang propane tanks) but no additional posts bolted thru the deck, and an inboard equipment rail on each. The grill was a recent addition. I think they are perfect with your feet resting comfortably on the coaming.
