As with many of the replies, My concern was space / utility. I've mounted custom SS posts on each side of the swim step lazarettes. The bases are thru bolted with supports on at the top rail. Resembling motor lifts, they swivel ( 360 ) to act as lifts while when swung to the stern easily lift my hard dinghy. The load is vertical, minimizing rail stress, and either will lift my 200lb. neighbor from the dink (MOB). Cost was approx. $350.
