Hello all...

Have a Pearson P36-2 and want to put an arch off the stern for solar panels as well as hanging tender. Anybody ever have one made? Looking for ideas and examples on sail boats...

thanks!!

Didn't have it made, don't know much about NY, but my Bene had an arch when I bought it. I LOVE IT!!! See my avatar pic, and you can probably find other pics if you Google Moondance

I researched custom arches for my Catalina 310. Fellow in Tarpon Springs, FL, makes beautiful stainless steel arches. Figured minimum $3500, probably closer to $5000. Ended up ordering Martek davits and buying a 135 watt Kyobera panel and installing them myself. Cost less than $2000 altogether, and I love it. The davits I got at Martek.com, and the panel and all mounting hardware at svhotwire.com. John at Hotwire also knows the guy who builds the custom arches, if you're interested.
By the way, if you're motoring along on a sunny day after the solar panel is installed, and your tach suddenly drops to zero, don't be alarmed. Just means your batteries are fully charged, the panel is providing plenty of power, so the alternator just shuts down,( ask me how I know this!).
With this panel in place, we have been on a mooring as long as 12 days, without having to run the engine, even in northern latitudes. Gotta love it!

Look at the starting price
I remember awhile back there was an arch on EBay cheap and I thought by the time I bought it,paid for shipping and had it modified to fit it would be a costly endevour......I should have bought that one after seeing what they really cost

My neighbor made one out of pvc. It looks...swell. I was like "really?" He's a mech engineer to boot.
Aluminum would be SOOO much cheaper to have one built out of, but I just don't see it lasting like SS unless you have a great anodizing job done. After the price of the anodizing, you probably could have bought a SS one.

What diameter and thickness of tubing do they use for arches?

I was thinking of building one, I had fun bending/welding the crab steamer.
