I've acquired a 1975 Catalina 27 that's been inactive for 14 years and contains no cushions. Previous owner threw them away. My wife wants to make an attemt at making new ones herself. I need to know what thickness foam was used for the seats and backs as well as in the V-berth. Any recomendatiosn would be appreciated. Thanks. Hopefully this old Cat will sail again next spring.

You can always call Catalina. They are very good about helping those of us out in the "field."

4" is the standard. Get good foam, it's worth the extra $$. Peter

Check prices at Catalina Yachts

This spring, we replaced all of the cushions on our 1978 C27. We first looked into the cost of 4" foam and the cost of decent material to make the covers, which a friend offered to sew for free. THEN we checked with Catalina Yachts (Not Catalina "Direct"). It was less expensive to buy brand new cushions and covers than to make them ourselves, that includes the shipping fee. Remember, all foams are not made alike. You'll probably want foam that that is less susceptible to mildew. The cost adds up quickly. Not to mention, Catalina included all of the snaps on the back cushions for the salon. I doubt we could have gotten those lined up right. Good luck.
