Currently a C25 owner, thinking of going to a 27

I'm thinking of doing the step from my 25 to a 27, i didn't know mucgh about he 25 until after i bought it. now i had a rude awakening when i found out that the stock spreader brackets and chain[plates had to be replaced with the upgrades. my question is, what are the specific areas of weekness/concern with the 27 modle? or what specifically should i look for or what should i avoid?

have you considered a 30?

I moved from a 25 fixed keel to a 30 and I love it! the 27 and 25 are esentially the same boat with the 2 foot difference going to housing the onboard engine. the 30 is completely different from the 25. much more roomy, stable under sail and full of ammenities. with regard to the 27, I can't say anything specific as i have never owned one. as with any used boat look for obvious things like wear and damage.

Like my 27

We have a 27 and are really enjoying it. We found one with a wheel and inboard diesel. I had a friend with a 27 and an outboard and like the inboard diesel much better. Seems to be a good boat for the money. While the 30 has much more room you'll probably spend quite a bit more to get into a 30. In any case, I would highly recommend spending the money for a good boat surveyor. A good surveyor will find any defects and will make you feel better about the boat. Good luck!

We like our 27 too!

Steve,We moved up from a 22' O'Day to our present 1985 27' Tall Rig in 1996.It has wheel steering and an inboard diesel. We just love the boat and feel it's a quality built boat and safe.But, remember to have a survey done prior to transfering any money.

Consider a Catalina 28

have you considered a Catalina 28? While only a foot longer, it offers considerably more room in the cabin and has a double aft bunk and a walk-thru transom. many used models come as well equipped as a 30. Good luck.Andy

Go for a 28 or 30

I have a 1985 27 Tall rig for 2 yrs, Great for two adults & two (small) kids. If I do it again I would go for a 28 at least. 4 adults in 27 a little tight for crusing,

27 or 28

You have a boat now to enjoy the summer in, take your time. Spend some time on all the models. Make a list of what you need, what you would like, and what you don't want. I had a C22 in the early '80s loved it. Out of boating while raising the kids, when we were looking to get back in we started looking at 27/28s. Made the lists, took our time, almost got a 30 and ended up with a C34. Couldn't be happier. I think if we had bought smaller we would have traded up in a couple of years, so now instead of dealers/surveyors fees we can add upgrades. We looked at a couple of boats on mooring bouys, you can't imagine the difference a walk through transom makes. It is a definite on my list.
