Seriously, have no idea. I screwed mine out one day and there is really not much behind it. Probably just needed to fill up the space.

It's for the fire extinguisher - and an extremely stupid place for one, in my opinion. One of the most likely places for a fire is on or around the stove. In that case, access to the fire extinguisher would be difficult if not impossible. I moved the one I had here to a different location.
