The sole under the table on my '79 Cat 22 is swollen and crunches when stepped on. Sounds like a pile of rust under the fiberglass sole. I suspect the keel support plate is rusting out. I re-finished the keel this year and the keel bolt threaded holes seemed fine; the bolts tightened up OK. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Delaminating sole.

The C22 has an inner shell that makes up the interior spaces. The floor (sole) is seperated from the hull by the bilge space which is very shallow in the table area. I suspect that you have some water infiltrating the sole and causing the delamination, crunchy sounds. The keel support plate is imbedded into the hull when laid up and I believe is stainless steel and should be fine. If youre not sur I'd seek professional help. Good luck.

No Metal under the dinette

There is only a small space under the floor in the dinette area. It should be empty, but sometimes things (like water) can get in there. The best way to get rid of water is to drill a small 1/4" hole in the compartment separator under the forward seat of the dinette. This will allow any trapped water to escape into the storage compartment where the keel bolt is located. Once you know there is no water, you can try to figure out what is making the sound. If you need a new boat, I'll sell you mine. Regards, Ted

crunch

hello matt, there is a 1/8th inch thick sheet of plywood that extends from the battery compartment under the cockpit step, at least to the the area that you would put the portapotty. could be that it is separating from the overlaying fiberglass. good luck john
