Hunter Vision 32 Nashville Shores Marina
We are considering purchasing a 1989 Hunter Vision 32. I noticed while looking at the boat and walking around that there was some crazing which i assume is normal for a 20 year old boat. I also noticed a slight crunching sound while walking on the non-skid areas around the boat. Is that a sign of a serious problem or a normal problem or one i should just run away from. The boat is in pristine condition visually and very well kept. Looks almost new. but with a price tag of 39k im a little concerned. Also the engine smokes when first started. Just a little puff then its gone..is this normal. I have had o lder smaller sailboats that had crazing and it didnt seem to cause problems but this is alot mor money.

Thanks for any help you can provide

I would temporarily ignore the smoke puff upon starting. Although it might be indicative of an engine problem, an engine survey by a (good) diesel mechanic as part of a pre-purchase survey would address that variable.
The deck noise, also something which would be investigated by a good surveyor, indicates either rotted core or more likely delamination of the deck. It certainly sounds like one or the other and depending upon the extent, could be a costly repair.

Crunch

I tend to think it's no big deal. Unlike a stayed rig, the Vision deck doesn't work much and there isn't a lot of places for water to enter. Mine had a little crunch from new up on the forward deck and it was dry as a bone. By all means, tho, be sure to point it out to the surveyor. (Having said that, lots of those guys have no clue how to interpret a moisture meter reading.)
