pet ramps

Anyone have any good ideas on doggie friendly side mount boarding ladders? I've looked at Dive'n'dog but it seems like we need an intermediate platform or a circus trained pooch.[/quote]

If you mean a ramp to get from the dock to the boat, check out this link. I have had one for two seasons now and it works great. The surface is non-skid and corrogated for strength and traction. It also comes in a larger size.

Dogs and board

Our little Yorkie loves sailing (here pictured assisting the admiral), loves her life jacket and barks only at power boats. A great crew, though not much rail meat. But we have not been able to solve the training problem. So far, she just holds it in, so we have never kept her aboard for more than 12 hours, and even that produced lots of guilt. I tried getting a natural doormat for her to use, and even followed her around on a walk to try to get her to pee on it. That took a lot of explaining to a curious neighbor. But even with the urine scent, she just ignores it.

What I'm looking for is a dog who's already trained to go on the fore-deck. Maybe he or she could set the example for mine. Another possibility would be to put some ground cover out by the sidewalk where other dogs might pee on it and then put it on our boat. As dog owners know, a dog simply must pee where others have been.

Girl dogs might be better. Our little boy Herbie, on his first attempt, lifted his leg and aimed straight over the side. "What a clever dog" we thought. Second effort employed the same method but the aim was out by 180 degrees, straight through an open port! He does use the foredeck now but we make sure the ports are closed. The other problem with Herbie is fur. It always requires a big cleanup after he has been on board. Herbie is a Jack Russell.
