Hello cruisers!
My wife and I are planning a cruise on the lower Chesapeake the week of July forth. I would like to depart from the Hampton area and go east across the bay to the kiptopeak area and spend and evening listening to the live bands at the sunset inn that i have heard about. From there i would like to take a couple days to make my way up to tangier island and spend the night at parkers marina and tour the island and partake in its local seafood. Once done seeing Tangier we would make our way down the mainland coast back to Hampton. If any one would like to join us or has any suggestions or don't miss attractions feel free to let me know! You can also check out my blog at sailingwiththegoodmans.blogspot.com hopefully this trip will make a nice addition.

We made a similar trip a few years ago but strated our trip in Alexandria , VA and on the 4thy of July took in the fireworks in DC from the Potomac and then headed down river for Tangier Island. Parks Marina is the only show in town but is fairly priced and Mr. Parks is quite a character. If you like wine or beer take it on board as alcohol is not sold on the Island. The locals take their boat to Chrissfield for drinks but they still manage to dock at 15 knots in reverse.

That is the kind of kind of great advice i have come to expect from these forums! no beer or mixed drinks wouldn't be a deal breaker but I do love a sun downer.

Two suggestions for western shore

Reedville and Jackson Creek
We did this a few years ago on our H35. Reedville at one time had the most millionaires per square mile of any place in the U.S.... because of menhaden. Take a tour of the museum which will give you history of the town. On the 4th the old homes decorate with traditional banners and bunting...quite lovely! There's only two places to eat and they used to not compete, so weren't open simultaneously...google for more info.
Jackson Creek is a lovely anchorage and great place to go for a walk. It's the Deltaville area...a large sailing community.

You'll like Tangier....a taste of small town America.

We envy you!

Re: Two suggestions for western shore

Thanks for the great suggestions it sounds like a great place to visit. If our time table works out we would end up in that vacinity on the 4th or the day after so the decorations would still be up my only concern of the whole trip will be the traffic on the water. Oh and summer thunder storms.
