Hello, Has anyone gone through the required motions of setting up your boat to fly a cruising spinnaker? If so, can you provide some detail? I'm pretty new to this stuff but thought this might be a fun thing to do. I'm re-wiring the mast and replacing the RF so I thought this would be a good time to add the required hardware. Thanks! A-Sail

There is nothing difficult to to rig for the a-sail. I run the fore-guy through a snatch block on the bow for the tack of the sail. The sail tack can be connected to a loop of beads that wrap around the roller furler fore-stay to allow for height adjustment and tack control of the sail. ATN also makes a device for this purpose called a Tacker. Also keep in mind that a crusing spin jibes if front of the fore-stay, so longer sheets are necessary. I hope this helps. minimum requirements

if you have roller furling or a fractional rig, you do need a halyard for the spinnaker. Otherwise, all you really need is a way to attach the tack to the boat (it can be as easy as a piece of deck hardware with a backing plate that you can tie the tack to), and a couple of blocks at the stern that allow you to run the sheets forward to your primary winches. Sheets should twice your boat length. A tacker, downhaul, and other gear would be nice, but they're not absolutely necessary.

Spinnaker parts

The Catalina 25 National Association web page has the original parts list for the Catalina 25. The following link is to the spinnaker equipment page which pictures the required hardware and has their part numbers. You can buy the parts from Catalina directly (check their web site for phone number) or from Catalina Direct, an aftermarket Catalina parts manufacturer (check their web site)(Check google.com to search for their URL's). http://c25c250.best.vwh.net/restricted/pc22.gif

Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'm still a little uncertain about the block at the top of the mast. Sounds like I need to add a structure of some sort to extend the spinnaker block forward? At any rate thanks for the help, now to find the sail! -Tim
